Description

When: Sept 11, 2023

In aerospace, CAD (computer aided design) has become a standard modeling tool for flight hardware since the 1980s. Production environments, however, have been largely ignored. Nowadays, concepts such as MBSE (model-based systems engineering) and digital twin have endeavored to address these challenges. Another closely related digital engineering production technology is additive manufacturing. Additive manufacturing can create highly optimized hardware for aerospace, yet the process is still evolving – actual compelling use cases are still relatively few. This workshop will explore the challenges and opportunities surrounding these elements of digital engineering and manufacturing in the context of mobility.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the fundamentals state of system-level modeling (eg. MBSE) for advance manufacturing
  • Understand the fundamental principles of additive manufacturing and why it is viewed as disruptive to aerospace
  • Identify opportunities for investment and technology development to enable the future mobility market

Focus Area & Skill Level

MBSE for production systems (part 1 – morning) and additive manufacturing (part 2 – afternoon).

Skill Level: Targeting intermediate, but will have content to accommodate all interested parties
