John Clatworthy

  Aerospace Standards Specialist Engineer

John has worked within the Aerospace Industry for over 45 years. During his service with the British Army he achieved a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Royal Military College of Science (RMCS), Shrivenham, UK and was an Engineering Technical Officer responsible for military helicopter maintenance, serving in Germany, the Falkland Islands and UK. On leaving the military he spent 10 years with the UK’s Aerospace and Defence Trade Association, SBAC (now ADS) as manager of their aerospace standard parts and qualification programme. During this time he represented UK industry on a number of national, European and International aerospace standards committees. John then worked for BAESYSTEMS as their military standards Engineering Professional Lead during which time he chaired the British Standards Aerospace Policy Committee and represented BAESystems on the SAE’s Aerospace Council. He now works for SAE International (SAEI) as one of the European business development staff working from their London Office. Whilst working for SAEI John has been involved in shaping their electrical standards product groups and orientating SAE’s materials committees towards new materials and process specification to support UAM and UAS vehicles. John has also worked with UK MoD on their concept for ‘in the field’ AM produced parts for military equipment.

More recently John has worked with SAE’s in-house team working towards the digitization of its standards portfolio and integration into digital design tools.
