Description

When: Fri, Sept 15, 2023

This workshop will show how aligning the deployment of electromagnetic and cyber protected microgrids for critical infrastructure with their ability to support EV and H vehicles so that the car-charging microgrids can become self -funding and possibly profit centers. The workshop will also address the supply chain issues that will ensure products are reliably sourced and domestically when possible. It will also address the workforce as a supply chain issue and bring technology innovators together with construction and infrastructure maintenance companies to ensure that the recruiting, training and certifications needed will be appropriate and timely.

Workshop leaders will include leaders from electric utilities, national labs, microgrid and car charging providers, and senior leaders from microgrid users including military, public safety, and hospitals. Leaders and perspectives from workforce training organizations will also participate.

Invited leaders will make brief presentations from their perspectives on what needs to be done to ensure that the infrastructure for local energy and auto energizing systems will be in place on time. (10-11 AM) Then, panels will discuss each of these issues from various perspectives. (11-12) Workshop participants will join them in break-out groups to discuss next steps needed including:

  1. Refinement of business cases and value propositions
  2. Funding sources
  3. Technology collaborations
  4. Workforce development programs for skilled trades and construction
  5. Initial installations along with milestones over the next year
  6. Systems engineering and public policy support. Groups will report out findings and recommendations. (1-4PM)

Speakers confirmed for participation include Terry Boston, General John F. Wharton (ret’d).
Expected guest speakers include Major General Robert B. Newman, DHS Science and Technology Directorate
