Jason works with developers, user communities, the market, and other stakeholders to build solutions that help us all navigate the energy transition. Jason loves the truth that numbers can provide, balanced by his instincts and doing what feels right. Personally, Jason works to keep his passion for renewable energy resources, green practices, and energy efficiency in balance with his love of cars and driving.
Jason values people over processes, servant leadership, and building teams of inspired individuals who want to inspire others. Whatever the business, people are by far the most interesting part of the equation.
Regarding the electrification of consumer and commercial transportation, our view of the horizon is clear – we are all preparing for the big switch. Both the private and public sectors are spending billions on building a new infrastructure to support the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide. This same infrastructure will also support the energy economy of the future. As more vehicles and the electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) infrastructure that supports them become “Grid Native”, drivers and fleet operators will participate directly in this new marketplace. For the automaker, this provides intrinsic customer value to their product – a new factor that can reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).
A brighter and cleaner future is within reach, but the journey is not without its challenges. Utilities are dealing with the growing adoption of EVs and the resulting stresses that this adoption places on the distribution grid network. From the utility’s perspective, the core issue is how to accommodate the increase in demand that electrification presents while incorporating a diverse population of power sources – all the while staying true to their historical mission to maintain power quality and reliability in an economically responsible way. To benefit all stakeholders, standardization in our industry is critical. Standards focused on engineering, communication protocols, and grid functions need harmonizing, adoption, and solidification to make the vision become reality.
